Friday, June 13
This was the day that saw our departure for our long-awaited and much anticipated vacation; three glorious weeks in Lake Tahoe! The boys and I left on Friday. Mario will be joining us in a week and a half. This would be Alex's first opportunity to do some extended driving since getting his permit as he and I would share the 10-hour drive.
The drive was uneventful and went quickly as we entertained ourselves by listening to a book on CD. The chosen book was David McCullough's John Adams. Hearing the story of this great American Patriot as related through the touching letters between John and his wife Abigail was inspiring. The art of letter writing was so beautifully rendered it made me pine for this current generation who knows nothing but text message abbreviations. Can you imagine Abigail Adams, who often began her letters to John, "My dear own best friend" simply saying "My bff?" I do fear the history of this time will not be known through our letters and emails!
The scenery on the drive is fairly dreary until you reach the Lone Pine, Bishop area. Once in this area the beauty of the Eastern Sierra's is ever-present. We took a couple of breaks to stretch our legs, give Millie (our dog) a break and simply to soak up the scenery.
Here are some of the photos we took along the way:

Millie takes a break along the Carson River

Austin joined Millie to take a peek at the river.

Millie and Timbo are sleeping companions on the long ride north. (Can you see why my friends tease me about having "color coordinated" pets?!!)
